Accountant

Our client is a global leader in supplying and importing world class commodities to leading business in Australia and New Zealand. You may not have heard of them however they are well established and profitable. Due to impending maternity leave this role will be available for a 10/12month period. Reporting directly to the General Manager - Australasia, you will be responsible for day to day monitoring of the company's accounting and finance activities. This includes reporting overall profitability of the operational activities, ensuring corporate and business policies are aligned and implemented and provide support and assistance to the Directors on corporate and group issues as required.

Tasks:

Accurate and timely month end financial reporting

  • Month end accounting processing to meet corporate deadlines including processing journals, accruals and prepayments
  • Examining operating costs and organisations' income and expenditure
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts & bank accounts
  • Managing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, Payroll, Financial and Management Accounting functions
  • Preparing monthly Business Activity Statement and payroll tax and liaising with external tax consultants for other documents required by ATO
  • Cash flow forecasting and management
  • Preparing annual budget including liaising with country manager for required inputs
  • Liaising with external auditors and preparing audit schedules
  • Liaising with external consultants for the preparation and review of annual statutory financial statements and tax calculations

Skills and experience:

  • University degree with formal accounting qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of financial practices and statutory requirements
  • Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, problem solving skills, high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, manage time and meet deadlines
  • Able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Experience in JDE or similar will be beneficial
  • Experience in external audit and liaising with top tier advisors
  • December year end and global reporting will keep you busy in January

You will be customer focussed and proven to have worked effectively in a broadly based stand-alone Accountant position previously. You must be able to commit for the full duration and be seeking a salary package of circa 90K. This small team is based in corporate offices near the St Kilda road / Domain exchange. There is also likely to be some flexibility in working from the office and partially remotely as the current landscape evolves.
